Die Grammy Awards sind Musikpreise, die seit 1959 von der National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles jährlich in zurzeit insgesamt 109 Kategorien an Künstler wie Sänger, Komponisten, Musiker sowie Produktionsleiter und die Tontechnik verliehen werden. Am 31. Januar 2010 wurde die 52. Grammy-Verleihung gefeiert.
Der Grammy gilt als die höchste internationale Auszeichnung für Künstler und Aufnahmeteams. Der Preis ist von der Bedeutung vergleichbar mit dem Oscar in der Filmindustrie. Die zugehörige Trophäe ist eine Grammophonskulptur in teils goldglänzendem Design.
Für eine Auszeichnung in Frage kommen jeweils Veröffentlichungen vom Oktober des vorletzten Jahres bis einschließlich September des Vorjahres. Wurde also ein Album beispielsweise im Oktober 2002 veröffentlicht, konnte es nicht den Grammy im Jahre 2003, sondern erst 2004 erhalten. In jeder Kategorie werden von einer Jury jeweils fünf Kandidaten nominiert, bei Stimmengleichheit können sich auch mehr oder weniger Kandidaten ergeben. Im Januar werden die Nominierungslisten veröffentlicht. Die endgültigen Preisträger werden erst bei der offiziellen Verleihungszeremonie Anfang Februar bekanntgegeben.
Die meisten Grammys kategorieübergreifend erhielt der klassische Dirigent Sir Georg Solti mit 31 an ihn selbst einschließlich eines Lifetime Achievement Award sowie sechs weitere für Tontechniker und einen für einen Solisten in seinen Aufnahmen.
Am 13. Februar 2011 werden im Staples Center von Los Angeles die Grammy Awards 2011 verliehen. Es ist die 53. Verleihung des Grammys, des wichtigsten US-amerikanischen Musikpreises. Gewürdigt werden Anfang 2011 die musikalischen Leistungen, die zwischen dem 1. September 2009 und dem 30. September 2010 veröffentlicht worden sind.
Vergeben werden 108 Auszeichnungen in 30 Bereichen. Die Nominierten wurden am 1. Dezember 2010 bekanntgegeben.
